France EPR Guide: Complete Registration for Packaging, WEEE, Textiles & Batteries
France operates a unified registration system through ADEME, which issues an Identifiant Unique (UIN) for each EPR stream. The UIN must appear on invoices, website terms and conditions, and be provided to marketplaces. Key requirements include the Triman logo, Info-Tri sorting instructions, and an annual declaration by 31 May.

Overview
France was an early adopter of EPR, with packaging rules dating back to 1992. The regulatory framework has been significantly strengthened by the AGEC Law (Anti-Gaspillage pour une Économie Circulaire) of 2020, which expanded EPR to additional streams and introduced eco-modulation and mandatory labelling. France is unique in the EU for its comprehensive textile EPR scheme through Refashion.
Identifiant Unique (UIN)
ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition) issues one UIN per EPR stream per producer. You must display your UIN:
- On your invoices
- On your website's terms and conditions / legal notices page
- When registering on marketplaces (Amazon, Cdiscount, Fnac, etc.)

Packaging EPR
Eco-Organismes
Three approved eco-organismes manage packaging EPR in France:
- Citeo — the primary eco-organisme, handling the majority of household packaging
- Léko — specialises in reusable and e-commerce packaging
- Adelphe — subsidiary of Citeo, focuses on wine and spirits packaging
Triman Logo & Info-Tri
The Triman logo is mandatory on all household packaging placed on the French market. It must be accompanied by Info-Tri sorting instructions — a visual guide showing which bin each component of the packaging goes into. These labels must be in French and applied to:
- The product packaging itself
- The product page on your website or marketplace listing
- Any printed documentation included with the product
Annual Declaration — 31 May
All producers must submit an annual declaration of packaging volumes by 31 May of the following year. For producers placing over 10,000 units/year, a 3R prevention plan (Réduction, Réutilisation, Recyclage) is also required.
Eco-modulation applies: packaging that is easily recyclable receives a bonus (lower fee), while non-recyclable packaging incurs a penalty (higher fee).
Lead time: approximately 14 days.
WEEE EPR
WEEE compliance in France is handled through two approved eco-organismes:
- Ecosystem — the primary WEEE eco-organisme, covering household EEE
- Ecologic — covers specific categories including professional equipment
You must obtain a UIN from ADEME for WEEE, contract with one of the eco-organismes, and apply Info-Tri sorting instructions to your products. Lead time: approximately 21 days.
Textile EPR — Refashion
France is the first EU country with a comprehensive mandatory textile EPR scheme. Refashion is the sole eco-organisme for textiles, covering:
- Clothing and apparel
- Footwear
- Household linen (bedding, towels, curtains)
- Textile accessories
Registration with Refashion is mandatory for any brand placing textile products on the French market. A UIN from ADEME is required first. Lead time: approximately 21 days.
Battery EPR
Battery producers must register with ADEME and contract with one of the approved eco-organismes: Corepile or Screlec. The EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542) applies in addition to French requirements. Lead time: approximately 21 days.
